I'm looking at getting a Strada Rx8 samething as the vento triton r4. It's basically the same thing as the zip but with a different body and less storage space, but a longer wheel base and a little more room in the saddle.

But the more I learn about either the better. Also, I do agree with wickedsprint. I like the looks of the zip a lot better than the triton but it'd be too small for me. I don't have much experience with this, but I think altering the seat a little on the Zip, to make it flatter and less stepped, would help with driver comfort and space, allowing you to sit farther back.

One question though and this is something that I've gotten conflicting information on the other forums concerning Zip derestriction. I don't believe my Zip has been derestricted, but I'm able to go about 35 on it, maybe a little bit more.

This is higher than the hard "cap at 30" I would expect with restriction, but not as high as the estimates on derestricted Zip's I've been given. Is it possible some form of restriction remains? Or does the motor just need more miles on it? All of the links I see given on how to check for forms of restriction end up linking to "similar" scooters, and it would be helpful to hear what actual Zip owners did to derestrict. Well, as you know 50cc scoots can be ridden without tags in several states and they have to be limited to 30mph, BUT they also can't make anymore than 2bhp.

Stock these motors should be able to make about 4. So there's a restrictor in the drivetrain to prevent the rider from going over 30mph, but also a few restrictions in the engine. Some have a little washer welded in the exhaist that decreases flow to hinder performance but also a lot of them have some sort of limiter in the CDI coil too to limit the rpms the engine can reach.

If you had a tach on there I bet it'd show that you were topping out at half way up the actual rpm scale of the engine. I can find How-tos on derestricting the exhaust use a dremel but I can't find anything at all on the ignitions. Of course this is all stuff I've read on the internet so I don't really know how true a lot of it is. Photog , Sep 1, Search Advanced search…. New posts. Search forums. Log in.
