Dead-poll mode is a special mode that allows FlashScan and AutoCal to be reprogrammed. When you attempt to reprogram FlashScan or AutoCal the reprogramming software automatically requests dead-poll mode. However, sometimes it is not possible for the reprogramming software to request dead-poll mode, so a manual override is available. Dead-poll may be automatically selected by FlashScan or AutoCal if they detect that their firmware is missing or corrupt I.

No such node. I am adding this additional post as supporting information, and questions for the Netgear Firmware Engineering team. Also, hopefully this will provide research information for customers seeking a solution to their firmware problems regarding the FVSGv2 router.

It seems that in additional to the customers who have reported this firmware issue within this forum, other customers are noting it as well. I have two of these, and firmware upgrade fails on both of them.

Current firmware is 4. After I installed 4. There are a few steps we could recommend, if you haven't tried them yet. If you still need further assistance, you may reach us directly at netgearbusiness netgear. We appreciate your business and thank you for your patience.

Again, my FVSGv2 router functions normally. It will boot normally, and it's firmware is not corrupt, as it functions normally in every way. I ask that because the moderator is seeking feedback to know if his suggest works. Also, it seems odd that Netgear would point it's customer to use a 3rd party solution to correct a very critical, and on going problem with their firmware.

Are their any security implications for using a 3rd party software solution??? Any detailed information from Netgear to help me, and others understand the correct, and engineered solution to this known issue would be greatly appreciated.

Again, posting this information for customers seeking information about the current state of firmware upgrading for this router, or people seeking information related to a purchase decision. I personally do not have the option to use the "try and lets us know if it worked" solution.

So, is it at all possible to get a lab tested, engineered, known to be good, workable solution to this firmware issue for this Netgear router? Kindly state your concerns as well as the research you did about firmware v4. With all due respect, since I am not the original poster, and I was confirming that I was in fact experiencing the same issue as the original poster, and since it would seem that this problem with the firmware seemingly is effecting additional customers, myself included, I see no reason to take the solution "off board", since the fix will benefit all customers researching the reported problem with the firmware.

I was solely offering supporting information that the original poster reported problem was not unique to him, and is in fact affecting at least 4 customers, but it is widely known that people tend to not upgrade firm, so I would surmise that this firmware issue is affecting a number of customers, and has just not been reported in the numbers that would justify a public response from Netgear.

I generally do not upgrade firmware for feature benefits, but since the last recent releases are, in part, to correct exploit issues, I thought I would install the updated firmware. Actually, how this problem developed, and Netgear's response has been beneficial to me. I learned a lot. Anyway, I am abandoning the Netgear FVSGv2 due to this firmware problem, and the SHA1 issue as well for another device, and will watch from the background to see how this plays out.

I might apply your suggested TFTP fix to the Netgear router when time permits, and relegate it to a backup device. Other customers can attempt your suggestion to use the TFTP fix, or contact Netgear support privately for additional technical support.

Unfortunately I no longer have phone support and I am not going to pay for it. Chat is not available. I will have to wait for them to become available.

If this is a security issue. Netgear should be supporting this even if they have an small idea that this is a Firmware development issue. Net gear should be reaching out to those affected proactively to resolve with a supportable fix. These routers are not cheap. I have bought maybe 4 of them as the generations have progressed starting with the nonG versions. I am frankly starting to look more toward other brand since Netgear seems to be a time waster vs the other products I have from other vendors that just work.

Give me the ability to speak with someone and I wil. I will be happy to spend time explaining the situ and helping craft a supportable solution that will assist others if there is anyone else out there interested. I was able to fix this problem successfully using the method posted here. I am having the same issue as many others with upgrading my firmware from 4. I have attempted to upgrade through the router GUI using multiple different web browsers and computers.

Has anyone found another solution other than throwing the router off an extremely tall bridge? This makes me not want to buy Netgear again, as I have had ongoing issues with this router. I conducted incremental firmware updates from the corrupt 4. Not sure what happened but after trying to update the firmware using TFTP multiple times, it finally started to update.

As a note, it stalled about 3 times before it finally took the 4th time. I keep getting the corrupt file problem over and over. Netgerar firware recovery tool all credits go to the creator! View solution in original post. It does not say what you did. As usual, showing actual actions with their actual results error messages, Which "This firmware file" are you specifying? Did you read the "Release Notes" which are provided with the firmware kit?

I just want to update my running firmware V1. Quite a simple process normally and I have a lot of experience with routers and networks. However when updating by downloading the file from netgear and uploading it via the router update firmware screen I always receive the error This firmware file is incorrect! Also with any other firmware version for the R When trying to update via the link "A router firmware upgrade is available" I always get Firmware is Invalid.

I tried updating the router via Win10 and MAcbook systems with all available browsers on the market. I also performed factory restes before trying the update, but all resulting in above errors. So why is the router refusing the firmware that it self downloads or that you upload via a downloaded version from Netgear servers.

My first thought was browser incompatibility, but I tried them all all latest versions of the browsers mentioned above. All still mysteries. These files have names, and "the file from netgear" conveys no useful information.

Also still a mystery, but that may be because I still have no idea what you downloaded, or what you're trying to load into the router, or whether you're following the instructions which come in the firmware kit.
