Budget mobile with slide-out Qwerty keyboard and touchscreen dialling may appeal to heavy-duty messagers, but it lacks punch in other feature areas. Aimed squarely at the younger mobile messager, the LG KS may have a slide out Qwerty keyboard and touchscreen dialling but it's certainly more budget-priced social tool than top-end smartphone.
But alongside its easy to use email, instant messaging, text and MMS, the KS is set up for speedy access to online social networking sites such as bebo. Its other facilities are limited— there's a Wap 2. Still, the KS does adopt one of the latest must-have technologies — touchscreen control — albeit in a very restricted manner.
When the phone's keypad is closed, there are just a bank of slightly raised, rounded control buttons showing, and no number keys. But with a touch of a finger-iconed button the display becomes a virtual numberpad for touch-dialling. For example, to play music files straight from the file manager, you need to put them in the Sounds folder. The same goes for documents - as strange as it may sound - you cannot open an office document unless it's stored in the Documents folder, be it on the phone memory or the memory card.
Speaking of phone memory, the LG KS offers really inadequate amount of built-in storage memory - 15MB is not near enough even for a few multimedia files.
We guess that puts a microSD memory card next on your shopping list. We managed to confirm both that a 4GB card runs fine, as well as that larger cards 8GB are not supported.
