The pandemic put a brief hold on some of the oldest Thanksgiving rivalries in the nation, but Massachusetts football returned in force this week with great matchups across the state.
Here are some of the top games to watch. Marblehead at Swampscott : Although both undefeated teams are gearing up for their respective Super Bowl appearances the following week, neither program is likely to sit starters in the th edition of this rivalry. King Philip at Franklin : These teams navigated a tough Hockomock League and came out with just one loss between them.
King Philip trails the series, , and will look to gain momentum with a win ahead of its Division 2 Super Bowl showdown with Catholic Memorial. Boston English vs. Lexington at Concord-Carlisle : These historic towns held a rivalry game from that shifted to Thanksgiving from Lexington has won 22 of 39 regular-season matchups since the Turkey Day tradition ceased, but C-C holds a edge on Thanksgiving as the tradition resumes.
Now they meet for the 86th time in a series Reading has dominated. Revere at Winthrop : Longtime announcer Jim Lederman, who played in the Thanksgiving game against Revere, will be in the booth for the 50th straight edition of a rivalry his Vikings lead, Next week, 16 teams will head to Gillette Stadium to take their shot at a Super Bowl title. Having the Super Bowl games after Thanksgiving means some teams will bench their starters for a rivalry game in hopes of winning a bigger prize.

Freshman quarterback Damon Taylor got the scoring started for the Redhawks when he found senior Jayson Little in the back corner of the end zone for a yard passing touchdown that gave Natick a lead.
After a Seiche interception on the ensuing Framingham drive, senior running back Jake Adelmann ran yards to the house on the very next play to give the Redhawks a lead with left in the first quarter.
After a yard strike from Taylor to Little set up first-and-goal from the Flyers' 4 yard line, Nizayah Montas then punched it in from four yards out to extend Natick's lead to with left in the half. Taylor then finished the scoring in the first half with a yard touchdown pass to Seiche as the Redhawks led at the break.
On Natick's second drive of the second half, Taylor threw his third touchdown pass, this time to Montas — for his second TD of the day — to put the Redhawks up with left in the third quarter. The lone bright spots for the Flyers was a yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Cody Coleman to senior Tim Sullivan with left in the game. That and honoring the Super Bowl team at halftime, which beat Acton-Boxborough for the title. He was set to take a job at Digital Equipment Corporation.
His wife, Joan, and their children, Denise, Bill, Doug and Darren were aboard, restless in the back seats. He headed for the sports department and asked what area high school had the best football program. He was told, Natick, although Norwood and a couple of schools had been mentioned. But Natick had just won a Super Bowl. Dick Flutie became a main cog in starting up the Natick Pop Warner football program. In the meantime, Darren played in Wellesley.
When they got to high school, all three Flutie boys would star in football. In the s, Natick was all about football. You can imagine his surprise when he saw another guest at the table: the Framingham head coach! In his junior year, Natick ran over the Flyers. While Natick strung back-to-back unbeaten regular seasons, due to a ratings system it was imperative to beat Framingham to elevate chances of playing in Foxborough in December.
After his playing days ended, Darren spent 10 years helping out the Natick High offense. It was an emotional time for the father. He was only pounds. But that was at the beginning. Troy grew bigger and tougher and wound up setting state records for touchdowns and total yardage. Perhaps, through it all, his wildly successful and winding career, this is what sticks to Darren Flutie most of all.
